Evaluation question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

IPC Media has a diverse portfolio for everyone but they concentrate on three key audience groups: Men, mass woman and up market woman. These three categories comprise of such products as Rugby World, What’s on TV and Ideal Home. I believe this corporation may be a good production choice for my magazine, as it has also produced magazines like NME magazine, which is a music magazine that is similar to my product as it is targeted towards the same type of audience. Although, my audience group is not one of the three that the IPC target, so this corporation could not be a good choice to make.

If I were to distribute my media product, I could pick an institute suited to my target audience. However, I could pick a different corporation who have a gap in their portfolio where products towards the same, or similar audience group as my media product don’t exist. This could create an a great growth opportunities for my magazine, in terms of getting noticed. On top of that, the institute distributing my product may gain popularity and further growth because of the appeal of my product, therefore reaching out to more varied audiences.

Alternate publishers like Bauer may be appropriate because of the price. For example, NME for IPC Media is a weekly magazine costing £2.30, whereas Empire from Bauer on the other hand costs less.
